About me
Robyn Mixon is an adjunct professor at Tri-County Technical College and a Transition Specialist in Dorchester 4 School District. Although employed by Dorchester 4 School District for the past 19 years, she has been a Transition Specialist for the past four years. In this role, Dr. Robyn Mixon works with Vocational Rehabilitation and several other agencies to facilitate learning experiences for students with learning disabilities. She assists students and families with post-secondary planning and goal development. Entering the education field, in 2004, Dr. Robyn Mixon became a Special Education Teacher at Fieldston Preparatory School in Titusville, Florida. After two years of serving high school students in this separate day school, Robyn transitioned to New Horizons Regional Education Center, another separate day school, in Newport News, VA where she taught employability education skills to 9th and 10th grade students with emotional disabilities. After only a year, Robyn returned home in 2007, settling in Summerville, South Carolina. Robyn accepted the opportunity to teach students in Dorchester 4 where she continues to serve. Shortly after accepting the transition specialist role, Dr. Robyn Mixon scripted the book, "For the Love of Maddie" which describes her traumatic life experience and emphasizes the significance of family relationships and engagement. Her strong beliefs in a purpose driven life is evident from her passion for facilitating self- discovery of strengths and interests for her students. Throughout her career, Dr. Robyn Mixon has consistently taught with passion through the lens of her teaching philosophy, “You will achieve your dream, when it becomes your goal!” Dr. Mixon strives to ensure every student has the opportunity for family choices in postsecondary planning- education, employment, and independent living, including students with disabilities.
