Katy Wiggs is an educator, workforce development advocate, and the Founder of SC Career Kids, a South Carolina nonprofit dedicated to helping children explore careers, build life skills, and connect classroom learning to real world opportunities.SC Career Kids was born during COVID when a small group of young learners began doing school inside the Irmo Chamber of Commerce. Surrounded by local business leaders, students began asking questions about careers, tools of the trade, and how their school subjects connected to real jobs. Katy saw the spark and built a program around it.Under her leadership, SC Career Kids has grown to include:• After School Career Clubs serving students in LexRich 5, Lexington 1, Richland 2, and continuing to expand into additional districts• Safety Town in school field trips and summer camps serving students statewide• Career Camps featuring hands on experiences with industry professionals• A growing network of business, workforce, public safety, and higher education partners across South CarolinaThrough partnerships with law enforcement, healthcare providers, manufacturers, skilled trades professionals, and community organizations, Katy has created meaningful opportunities for children to see, touch, and experience careers at an early age.Her work focuses on underserved students, workforce awareness, and helping children explore their “future dreams” with confidence. SC Career Kids emphasizes safety skills, communication, employability habits, and early career exposure in a way that is engaging, hands on, and community driven.Katy’s vision is to scale SC Career Kids across South Carolina so that every child, regardless of zip code, has access to high quality career exploration and essential life skills that prepare them for long term success.
