SUMMARY:Future Ready from the Start: Get in the Game!
DESCRIPTION:What if we started preparing students for their careers the same way we prepare them for sports — by teaching the rules\, practicing the skills\, and building confidence early? SC Career Kids is helping schools build a strong workforce foundation by introducing career awareness in elementary school through hands on exploration\, purposeful play\, and meaningful conversations with community helpers and industry professionals. From statewide Safety Town programs serving PreK through 2nd grade to expanding after school Career Clubs across multiple districts\, students are introduced to career pathways\, essential life skills\, and workplace readiness habits in developmentally appropriate ways. This session explores how early career exposure strengthens academic engagement\, builds student confidence\, and supports long term educational success. Participants will learn how intentional community partnerships\, interactive programming\, and aligned instructional strategies can integrate career awareness within existing school structures. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how early career exposure can be thoughtfully integrated within their schools and districts\, and how SC Career Kids can serve as a trusted partner and resource in helping bring these experiences to life. We would never wait until high school to teach a child how to read or to compete in athletics. Career awareness should be no different. The earlier students understand the possibilities ahead of them\, the stronger their educational journey becomes. The future is not waiting. It is time to get students in the game.

SUMMARY:Palmetto Math: Where Every Student in South Carolina is a Math Student
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever heard the phrase\, "I'm just not a math person." If so\, this session is for you. Participants will gain insights on how using Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) across all grade levels can create math kids and improve math outcomes. Through CRA\, students develop a tactile and visual "anchor" for math concepts that create lasting mental representations that students can use when they encounter difficult abstract problems. In addition\, CRA ensures students understand the why behind a procedure before moving to the abstract stage\, preventing students from just memorizing steps they don't understand. When students understand the underlying concepts\, they are better able to apply mathematical skills to new\, real-world situations. Are you ready\, let's do some math!

SUMMARY:Everyone is a Mentor
DESCRIPTION:Young people are surrounded by adults every day—teachers\, coaches\, administrators\, bus drivers\, parents\, and community members—yet many students still struggle to find the consistent encouragement and guidance they need to thrive. Schools often think of mentoring as a formal role assigned to a small number of people\, but the reality is that mentoring happens in everyday interactions. The challenge is not a lack of caring adults—it is the absence of a shared framework and practical tools that help people recognize and use their influence intentionally. This session explores the idea that everyone in a school community has the potential to be a mentor. Participants will examine how everyday interactions can become meaningful mentoring moments that help students develop confidence\, resilience\, and direction. The session also highlights the importance of structured mentoring frameworks and tools that help schools and communities move from good intentions to consistent\, meaningful support for young people. Participants will be introduced to mentoring strategies drawn from youth development research and practical mentoring models such as the GOODLIFE mentoring framework\, which provides tools and structured conversations that help mentors guide students toward stronger decision-making\, relationships\, and future direction. The session will also highlight how schools can expand their impact by engaging families and community partners in mentoring efforts. This workshop is being proposed as a collaborative session with Real Champions\, Inc.\, a South Carolina organization dedicated to empowering young people through mentorship and leadership development. Together\, the presenters will explore how schools and community partners can work side-by-side to create stronger mentoring networks around students. Participants leave with a clearer understanding of the power of mentoring\, practical tools they can use immediately\, and ideas for building mentoring partnerships that strengthen support for students both inside and outside the classroom. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the role every adult can play as a mentor\, practical strategies for building meaningful mentoring relationships with students\, exposure to structured mentoring tools and frameworks that help guide conversations and student growth\, ideas for engaging community organizations and volunteers in mentoring\, and examples of how schools and community partners can work together to create mentoring networks that support students.

SUMMARY:Datafication of Your Multi-Tiered System of Supports
DESCRIPTION:A well-planned and implemented Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) will ensure that goals\, resources\, and practices are aligned and cohesive\, ensuring positive student outcomes. Data turns MTSS from a framework into a force. When goals\, resources\, and practices line up with what your data is telling you\, students grow. This session digs into how to use data at every layer of MTSS: universal screening\, progress monitoring\, tiered decisions\, and where you put your time and money. MTSS is way more than tiered instruction. It runs on intentional planning\, regular data review\, and deliberate choices that keep student outcomes at the center of every call. Growth takes work. Big growth happens when the system is strong\, and the system gets strong when data leads.

SUMMARY:From Trust to Fear: How Childhood and Parenting Culture Have Shifted
DESCRIPTION:Something fundamental shifted in parenting culture over the past decades. What was once considered normal childhood—walking to a friend’s house\, playing unsupervised\, handling age-appropriate responsibilities—became labeled as “neglect.” Meanwhile\, anxiety and depression in young people skyrocketed. This session explores the cultural transformation from trust-based to fear-based parenting\, unpacking how media narratives\, legal ambiguity\, and parental anxiety created this shift—and what the research actually tells us about child safety and development. Discover the real data on childhood danger\, examine the disconnect between perceived and actual risk\, and explore how we collectively decided that constant adult supervision was not only necessary but good parenting. Perfect for educators\, administrators\, and school counselors seeking to understand and teach that giving kids room to grow isn’t risky—it’s essential.

SUMMARY:Authentic Choice as a Foundation of Resilience and Character
DESCRIPTION:Every day we make choices that shape not only our own paths but also the options available to those around us—yet in our schools and homes\, we've created environments where children rarely experience authentic choice\, leading to unprecedented levels of anxiety\, apathy\, and failure to launch. In this interactive session\, Let Grow's Executive Director will explore the critical difference between authentic choices (which build competence and internal locus of control) and manufactured choices (which can erode trust and fail to develop decision-making capacity). Participants will learn to recognize opportunities for shifting from micromanagement to authentic autonomy\, discovering how childhood serves as the training ground for building "choice muscles" in young people while helping adults develop trust in children's capabilities.

SUMMARY:Late-Emerging Reading Difficulties: Bridging the Gap in Grades 4–12
DESCRIPTION:By the time students reach the upper elementary and secondary levels\, an assumption is made that all students are automatic and accurate with decoding. But what happens when the foundational floor drops out? For many students\, reading difficulties that were once hidden emerge. This session tackles the phenomenon of Late-Emerging Reading Difficulties. We will move beyond the myth that literacy intervention is "too late" for older students and instead focus on the evidence-backed instructional shifts required to accelerate growth. We'll examine how to diagnose the root cause of comprehension issues\, explore the type of instruction that will accelerate student mastery of these foundational skills\, and discuss the systems level decisions that are needed to drive instructional practice and ensure student success.

SUMMARY:First and Foremost\, Find the Vowels: Unlocking the Six Syllable Types
DESCRIPTION:"First and foremost\, always and forever — find the vowels." It sounds simple\, but it is one of the most powerful instructional mantras a literacy teacher can carry into the classroom. The vast majority of English words follow predictable phonics patterns — and the six syllable types are the key to unlocking them. Every syllable type\, every decoding decision\, every spelling pattern comes back to the vowel. When students know where to look and what to expect\, they gain a transferable strategy for reading and spelling words they have never seen before. Yet syllable type instruction is one of the most underutilized tools in the literacy classroom\, often taught in isolation\, rushed through\, or skipped altogether in favor of whole-word memorization. Rooted in the foundational content of LETRS Unit 4: Advanced Decoding\, Spelling\, and Word Recognition\, this session brings the six syllable types to life through explicit instruction\, lively discussion\, and meaningful hands-on practice. Participants will build their own deep understanding of each type — closed\, open\, vowel-consonant-e\, vowel team\, r-controlled\, and consonant-le — always coming back to the vowel as the anchor. They will leave with ready-to-use classroom strategies they can implement the very next day. Whether you are currently working through LETRS\, applying it in classrooms\, or coaching others to do so\, this session will change the way you look at every word on the page.

SUMMARY:Stop Guessing-Start Progressing: Harnessing the Power of Learning Progressions for Numeracy Success
DESCRIPTION:Too often\, mathematics instruction relies on isolated skills and assumptions about what students know\, leading to gaps in understanding and inconsistent progress. This session will explore how learning progressions provide a clear\, research-based roadmap for developing numeracy by making student thinking visible and connecting concepts across grade levels. Participants will deepen their understanding of the purpose and benefits of learning progressions\, including how they support conceptual understanding\, guide instructional decision-making\, and ensure all students have access to grade-level mathematics through intentional scaffolding and extension.Beyond simply developing learning progressions\, this session focuses on making them an actionable tool for everyday instruction. Attendees will learn how to unpack standards\, identify prerequisite skills\, and use progressions to design aligned lessons\, targeted small group instruction\, and meaningful formative assessment opportunities. Through practical examples and collaborative discussion\, educators will leave with strategies to actively use learning progressions to drive numeracy success\, respond to student needs in real time\, and move from guessing about student understanding to making informed\, impactful instructional decisions.
